The concept of my work is to show the emotional state of teens. Some have anxiety, some are joyful, but what they all have in common is that they are all searching for who they are. At this time in their lives they are influenced by the people that sourround them, and current culture. I noticed that many of my subjects look like they are deep in thought, which supports the idea of searching. The reason I choose this theme is because I would like to major in Journalism when I go to college. Photojournalists Mary Ellen Mark, Sally Mann, and Ralph Eugene Meatyard were the main influences for this series. They also take formal black and white portraits of youth that show the emotional turmoil that comes with being a teen in transition. I chose to make the series black and white because it helps create a mood that supports my idea.
